Pope Francis says he is ill but will go to Dubai for climate conference

Pope Francis revealed on Sunday that he has lung inflammation but will go to Dubai later this week to speak at a climate change conference.

Francis skipped his weekly Sunday appearance at a window overlooking St. Peter's Square, a day after the Vatican said he was suffering from a mild flu. Instead, Francis gave the traditional midday blessing in a live televised appearance from the church at the Vatican hotel where he lives.

"Brothers and sisters, happy Sunday. Today I can't appear in the window because I have this problem of lung inflammation", said Fran?esku. The pope, whose 87th birthday is next month, added that a priest, sitting next to him, would read the day's reflections for him.

Francis earlier this year was hospitalized for three days with what he later said was pneumonia and what the Vatican described as a case of bronchitis that required treatment with intravenous antibiotics./ CNA
