The Harir base in Iraq is attacked with a drone/ Siren alarm at the American

Drone attacks targeted the al-Harir airbase in northern Iraq, which houses US troops, two security sources said.

Several sources in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone said sirens sounded at the US embassy compound for a possible attack, but there were no reports of shelling or casualties.

Embassy and Iraqi government officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A group called the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the latest attack, saying it had fired two drones at the al-Harir airbase.

US and international forces stationed in Iraq and across the border in Syria have been on high alert amid dozens of attacks on their bases since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas.

US officials said most of the attacks failed to hit their targets because of the powerful defense systems. They blame Iran-backed groups.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed many of the attacks, saying they were in response to US support for Israel in its fight against Hamas. Palestinian health officials say more than 10,000 people are hanging, 40% of them children. Figures cannot be independently verified.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani has vowed to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice. Three military bases where coalition advisers serve were hit, Ain al-Asad in western Iraq, a military base near Baghdad International Airport and the Harir base in Erbil./ VOA
