Nine injured in Russian drone attack in Kiev

An overnight Russian drone attack in Kiev has injured nine people and caused damage to buildings across the city, a senior official in the Ukrainian capital said on Thursday.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev military administration, stressed that ten areas of the city have suffered damage, and that two residential buildings were directly hit.

The Ukrainian capital faced airstrikes from Russia for the second night in a row.

Previous attacks have targeted energy infrastructure, in what Ukrainian officials describe as Moscow's campaign to disrupt the energy system ahead of winter. It is not clear what the targets of the latest attack were.

At least seven people, six of them in Kiev, were killed in attacks across Ukraine on Wednesday, which also caused power outages, officials said.

The Ukrainian military announced that Russia launched 130 drones in the latest attacks and that 92 of them were shot down.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it had struck Ukrainian energy infrastructure in response to Ukrainian attacks on civilian targets in Russia. Moscow says Ukrainian energy facilities are legitimate military targets. Both sides deny targeting civilians.

Ukraine has also carried out drone attacks on Russia.

In the latest such attacks, Russian officials said an energy facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region suffered minor damage and that an unidentified enterprise was engulfed in fire in the Ryazan region./ REL
