"We have won this war"/ Trump: Iran has given us a "significant price" regarding the Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump declared today that the US has secured victory in the war with Iran, while leaving open the possibility of continued attacks against Iranian energy infrastructure if ongoing negotiations to end the conflict fail.

"You know, I hate to say this, but we've won this war. We literally have planes flying over Tehran and other parts of their country ," Trump said in the Oval Office today.

He also said his administration was talking to the right people in Iran and that they really want to make a deal. He also said that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are involved in the discussions.

The president added that the Iranian regime has agreed that it will never have a nuclear weapon, a claim he has made before. He also said that the attacks on Tehran have led to regime change.

He alluded to a "very important prize" given to the US by Iranian negotiators, adding that it related to oil and gas, as well as the Strait of Hormuz. /CNA
