Cuba has announced that it will not hold its annual cigar fair this year, one of the most internationally recognized events for fans and traders of premium cigarettes, due to serious fuel shortages and power outages that have made it difficult to organize this prestigious event.
The fuel shortage and power outages that have affected the island in recent weeks have meant that organizers cannot guarantee the high quality of the festival that was expected to be held at the end of the month.
The cigar fair is a major event for the Cuban industry, where visitors from all over the world see up close the work of cigar masters on the plantations and participate in testing the luxury product.
Last year's edition ended with an auction of $18 million for a quantity of highly sought-after cigarettes, and sales recorded in 2025 were around $827 million.
According to international media, the fuel shortages are linked to harsh United States measures that are hitting oil supplies to Cuba, hindering imports from traditional allies such as Venezuela and Mexico. /CNA
