Mitsotakis calls Zelensky/Support for Ukraine confirmed before Brussels meeting

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a phone call, discussing key developments ahead of the special meeting of the European Council in Brussels on March 6.

According to government sources, Mitsotakis informed Zelensky about Greece's position on the upcoming summit and reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Ukraine.

The Greek Prime Minister stressed that achieving this goal would require a significant increase in the defense capabilities of the EU and Ukraine, alongside continued support from the United States. He also reiterated Greece's unwavering solidarity with Ukraine.

EU leaders will gather in Brussels on Thursday for an extraordinary summit to discuss defense spending, support for Ukraine and broader European security concerns. /CNA
