The UK will deploy Royal Navy ships to support Israel

RFA Argus, which acts as a floating structure during times of crisis or war

Britain is to send surveillance planes and two Royal Navy ships to the eastern Mediterranean in plans "to support Israel", reports the BBC.

The aircraft will begin patrols tomorrow to track threats to regional stability such as arms transfers to terrorist groups.

The package includes surveillance vehicles, helicopters, P8 jets and a company of marines.

Rishi Sunak said military support would prevent further escalation.

Under the plans, a Royal Navy task force will move to the area next week to support humanitarian efforts, Downing Street added.

Hamas launched an unprecedented offensive in southern Israel on Saturday, killing at least 1,300 and taking about 150 hostages in Gaza.

More than 1,300 have also been killed in Gaza since Israel began retaliatory airstrikes./ CNA
