Over 150 injured after the collision of two trains in Barcelona

At least 155 people have been injured after two trains collided on the outskirts of Barcelona, ??emergency services said, the BBC reports.

The crash happened around 8:00 a.m. local time at a station in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region.

Local media reported that the trains were traveling in the same direction and collided while one was parked at the station.

It is still unclear how the accident happened.

Emergency officials said the crash happened at the "Montcada i Reixac - Manresa" station, about 12 km from the city center.

They added that 150 people were slightly injured, while five others are "in a slightly more serious condition". Of these five, three have been transferred to the hospital.

Several train lines were briefly disrupted due to the accident, the regional government said.

Describing the moment of the crash, a passenger told Ser Catalunya newspaper she had experienced "an incredible shock" and said "people were screaming".

The Spanish Minister of Transport, Raquel Sanchez, said that she is closely monitoring the situation and wished a "speedy recovery" to the injured./REL
