After an extension of more than 36 hours, the UN Climate Conference agreed on the final statement. It envisages waiving the use of coal and a compensation fund.

For the first time, the World Climate Conference agreed on a common fund to compensate for climate damage in the poorest countries. In their final statement released on Sunday (20.11.) morning, around 200 countries also reaffirmed their earlier decision to phase out coal. But the statement does not mention giving up oil and gas.

Në këtë formë deklarata nuk përmbush kërkesat e shumë shteteve, aktivistëve të klimës dhe ambientalistëve, të cilët e shohin si të domosdoshme heqjen dorë prej varësisë nga burimet e energjisë që ndotin mjedisin.

Fondi i ri i kompensimit synon të zbusë pasojat e pashmangshme të ngrohjes globale - si p.sh. nga thatësirat gjithnjë e më të shpeshta, përmbytjet dhe stuhitë, por edhe nga ngritja e nivelit të detit dhe krijimi i shkretëtirave.

Nuk përmenden shuma konkrete

Çështja e financimit të fondittë ri të kompensimit të dëmeve prej klimës në vendet më të varfra ishte pika kryesore e mosmarrëveshjes në konferencën dy-javore në Sharm el-Sheikh, e cila u zgjat me më shumë se 36 orë.

The decision does not mention any amount for the new fund or which countries exactly it should pay. This will be clarified later. There will be favors for developing countries, which are particularly at risk from climate change, which was insisted on by the EU in particular./ Dw
