Israel requests the evacuation of Gaza/ More than 423 thousand people are

The Israeli army on Friday called on all civilians in Gaza City to evacuate "southwards" in the next 24 hours.

The Israel Defense Forces said evacuated civilians will be able to return to Gaza City "only when another announcement is made allowing them."

This means that the entire population of Gaza City and its surroundings, about 1.1 million inhabitants, must leave their homes.

The UN says the relocation order will have "devastating humanitarian consequences" and has called on Israel to revoke it.

The United Nations announces that more than 423,000 citizens have been displaced from Gaza so far. Translated into a percentage, more than 20% of the population has been evacuated so far.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said more than two-thirds of the displaced are being housed in schools run by the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
