The earthquake claimed over 1,000 lives/ 3 days of mourning in Morocco

Three days of national mourning have been announced in Morocco after the powerful earthquake that took the lives of more than 1,000 citizens.

This decision was announced by the Royal Palace of the country, reports the MAP news agency.

"Three days of national mourning have been declared, with flags flying at half-mast in all public buildings ," the Royal Palace said in a statement.

The 6.8-magnitude earthquake affected more than 300,000 people in and around Marrakesh.

The number of victims reached 1,037, while another 1,200 people were injured.

Currently, the search and rescue teams are continuing the excavations to extract the people trapped under the rubble.

The Moroccan armed forces have sent rescue teams to the affected areas to provide clean drinking water, food supplies, tents and blankets./ CNA
