The 77th anniversary of the Postriba Anti-Communist Uprising is commemorated

77 years have passed since the Anti-Communist Uprising of Postriba and it continues to be remembered as one of the important events of the anti-communist resistance of Albanians. Organized by the national association "Postriba-Nderi i Kombit", residents of Shkodra and Postriba paid tribute and laid wreaths at the memorial dedicated to this event. The mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci, who ran in the last local elections on May 24 from the Socialist Party, also placed a wreath of flowers today. The chairman of the "Postriba-Honour of the Nation" association, Faz Shabaj, said that for 30 years the Socialist Party has called the Postriba Uprising reactionary.

"We, even today, placed wreaths next to the tombstone erected in memory of this marked event. Next to this tombstone, the mayor of Shkodra, Mr. Benet Beci, also placed wreaths, whom I personally congratulate because, for 30 years now, the Socialist Party has never once honored this event, but has called it a reactionary and infamous uprising.

On September 9, 1946, the inhabitants of Postriba and its surroundings, dissatisfied with the establishment of the communist regime, attacked the army barracks and the Shkodra prison, with the aim of freeing political prisoners. Their revolt was violently suppressed and 9 of the insurgents were sentenced to death, 4 others to life imprisonment, while 6 insurgents were sentenced to 15-20 years in prison.

For the chairman of the association of the former political persecuted of Shkodra, Zenel Drangun, a part of those executed after the failure of the uprising, the burial place has not yet been found.

"Ten days ago, we had a meeting with the head of the Authority for Information on the Files of the former Security, where this issue was discussed in respect of Shkodra, which has 601 shot dead and 500 people whose remains have not been found"

In the commemoration of the 77th anniversary of the Postriba Anti-Communist Uprising, representatives of the Democratic Party also greeted, who appreciated the message conveyed by the commemoration of this event.

The Postriba uprising of September 1946 did not achieve its goal and was violently suppressed by the newly established dictatorship in Albania. However, it remains a symbol of resistance against communism. For this, Postriba was honored with the high order "Nation Honor"./ VOA
