US President Donald Trump has said the attack in Boulder, Colorado, "will not be tolerated" and called for stronger border controls in response.
Through a reaction on social media, Trump said the suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was in the country illegally and linked his entry to what he called President Biden's "open borders policy."
"Yesterday's horrific attack in Boulder, Colorado, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED in the United States of America," Trump tweeted on Monday.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt backed the president's comments in an interview with Fox News, describing the incident as "an act of heinous evil." She said the president will ensure that Soleimani and anyone else in the country illegally who is involved in terrorism are held fully accountable. /CNA
