Iran's attack on Israel/Netanyahu: They will pay

Iran has launched a missile attack on Israel, the Israeli military says about 180 missiles were fired, most of which were intercepted.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as a huge mistake and promised that Iran would pay.

The US confirmed it intercepted several missiles that had been fired from Iran at Israel and said it would stay in close contact with Israel.

Iran said its latest attack was an act of self-defense in response to Israel's aggressive acts against its allies, including the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

He also warned Israel not to retaliate, with a top military commander threatening to target Israel's infrastructure if Tehran's territory is violated.

The escalation follows Israel's decision to invade Lebanon in a limited, localized and targeted ground operation against Hezbollah.

The UN and EU have reiterated calls for a ceasefire, with the UN Security Council set to meet on Wednesday./ CNA
