Three people were killed and 15 others injured after a man attacked them with a knife inside a supermarket in Shanghai.

Chinese police said they arrested a 37-year-old man surnamed Lin at the scene, adding that he had come to Shanghai to "vent his anger because of his economic situation".

Further investigations are ongoing.

The incident took place in a shopping center in Songjiang, a densely populated district in the southwest of the city, which is also "home" to several universities.

Police said the three people died in hospital. The others "did not sustain life-threatening injuries" and are not believed to be in danger. "There was blood everywhere," an eyewitness surnamed Shi told BBC News./ CNA
