Big step for Kosovo/ Membership in the Council of Europe is voted on today

This Tuesday, at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a debate will take place and then a vote will be taken on Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.

The report on Kosovo's membership was compiled by the Greek MP and rapporteur, Dora Bakoyannis.

The draft of this report was approved in March by the Committee for Politics and Democracy of this organization.

To be approved by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, a two-thirds majority of the votes of the members present at the meeting must be secured.

The Parliamentary Assembly has 46 member states with a total of 302 members, plus 306 alternates. 34 states have recognized Kosovo as a state, while 14 have not.

However, the delegation from Kosovo expressed optimism for a vote in favor of the state's admission to the Council of Europe. 

If the vote is successful, the same report will be forwarded to the Committee of Ministers, which will be held on May 16 and 17 of this year.

This is the second test for Kosovo, on its way to membership in the Council of Europe, which is described as a "semi-final"./ CNA
