The motorcade of the former American President, Donald Trump, has arrived at the Manhattan court, where the selection of the jury for the criminal trial against him will begin.

He is the first former president to stand trial on criminal charges.

Judges expect about 500 new jurors to show up each day starting Monday to be available for the selection process, although some of those people will be pulled, also to other cases in the court system.

As in any state criminal court case, attendance will be limited to people who live in Manhattan.

About 100 potential jurors at a time will be brought into Judge Juan Merchan's courtroom to be vetted.

Twelve jurors will make up the panel that will ultimately hear the 34 counts of falsifying business records against Trump.

Six alternates will also hear the case in case a juror on the main panel needs to be replaced.

Donald Trump's motorcade has left Trump Tower, heading to the criminal courthouse in Manhattan, where he will make history as the first former president to stand trial on criminal charges./ CNA
