Germany charges six suspected IS-K members with planning terror attacks

Germany has charged six foreign nationals on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks on behalf of the extremist group, the Islamic State of Khorasan (IS-K), the Federal Prosecutor's Office said on April 24.

The suspects, identified as Tajik citizens Mukhammadshujo A., Nuriddin K., Shamshud N., Said S., Raboni Z., and Kyrgyz citizen Abrorjon K., among others, are accused of founding a terrorist organization.

According to federal prosecutors, the accused intended to carry out high-profile attacks in Germany and Western Europe, but they did not have a concrete plan when security forces intervened.

The suspects, who were arrested in July last year, had been in contact with IS-K, which is a branch of the Islamic State in Afghanistan. The IS-K group claimed responsibility for the mass attack in Moscow last month, when at least 137 people were killed.

According to investigators, the suspects had gone to Germany via Ukraine after the war broke out there in the spring of 2022, and formed terrorist cells together with another member from the Netherlands.

German prosecutors said that the accused constantly discussed their goals and observed possible places for carrying out attacks./ REL
