Germany, 2 people are arrested on suspicion of chemical attack

German authorities announced on Sunday the arrest of a 32-year-old Iranian national on suspicion of planning a deadly chemical attack.

Police and prosecutors also announced that another person had been arrested during the night, in the town of Castrop-Rauxel, northwest of Dortmund.

In a joint statement, the authorities said that the 32-year-old is suspected of planning a major attack, motivated by Islamic extremism, for which he is suspected of using dangerous chemicals such as cyanide and ricin.

The German news agency dpa announced that specialists wearing special suits, which guarantee protection from chemical agents, took evidence from the house of the Iranian citizen.

According to Bild newspaper, German authorities had received information from an allied intelligence agency about plans for a suspected chemical attack.
