Protests have taken place in cities around the world over the US military intervention in Venezuela that ousted Nicolas Maduro from power.

While some Venezuelans celebrated Maduro's capture, protesters on the other hand condemned the US operation as an overreach of authority and an affront to Venezuela's autonomy.

Protests were also held in front of the US embassy in the Spanish capital of Madrid. Many Venezuelans live in Spain, including opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez.

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Havana, the Cuban capital, the day before. The Cuban government has continued its support for Maduro and condemned the US operation.

Crowds of protesters also gathered in Bogota, Colombia, on Saturday. Members and supporters of India's leftist political parties gathered in New Delhi to express solidarity with Venezuela on Sunday.

In the Turkish cities of Ankara and Istanbul, protesters unfurled banners condemning "imperialism" and demanding that the US take its hands off Venezuela. /CNA
