The FBI confirms it is investigating after former President Trump's team

The FBI said Monday it is investigating after former President Donald Trump's campaign team said sensitive campaign documents were stolen, days after the campaign accused a cyber attack by Iran.

The FBI released a brief statement saying, "We can confirm that the FBI is investigating this matter."

The Republican candidate's team did not provide concrete evidence of Iran's involvement, but the claim came shortly after Microsoft released a report detailing efforts by foreign agents to interfere in this year's US presidential campaign.

The report cited an instance in June when an Iranian military intelligence unit sent a virus in the form of "an email to a senior official of a presidential campaign team from a compromised email account of a former senior adviser .”

Asked about Mr Trump's team's claim, Iran's UN mission denied Tehran was involved.

The FBI is also investigating possible interference with advisers to the campaign team of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Washington Post reported Monday.

The FBI began investigating this possible interference in June, when Mr. Biden had not withdrawn from running for a second term, under suspicion that Iran was behind efforts to steal information from the two presidential campaigns in the United States, the newspaper said, citing some sources.

Ms. Harris' campaign team did not immediately respond to a request for comment./ Voa
