French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has announced the deployment of Rafale fighter jets over the skies of the United Arab Emirates to protect French military bases there.
"They conduct airspace security operations over our bases ," Barrot told the media.
The French minister did not provide details on the missions carried out by the aircraft, or whether they were involved in shooting down any drones or missiles that could threaten the bases.
France has been critical of the US-Israeli attack on Iran, with President Emmanuel Macron saying the operation took place outside the framework of international law, which he said they could not approve.
But with the conflict rapidly expanding across the Middle East, it has shifted more military assets by deploying its nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and its accompanying frigates to the Mediterranean. /CNA
