Two cars with RKS license plates burn in Zubin Potok 1 hour earlier

Two cars, which were re-registered with Republic of Kosovo (RKS) license plates about a week ago, were burned in Zubin Potok, the Kosovo Police announced.

The police said that two persons, of Serbian nationality, have presented the case to the police, indicating that their cars were burned around 02:30 by unknown persons.

"The complaining parties report that their cars were parked in their neighborhood, in front of residential houses," the announcement states.

Blerim Vela, shef i kabinetit të presidentes së Kosovës, Vjosa Osmani, shkroi në Twitter se “strukturat ilegale të Serbisë po vazhdojnë të kërcënojnë serbët lokalë” në Zubin Potok.

“Mbrëmë, dy makina në pronësi të serbëve të Kosovës duket se u dogjën vetëm pse kishin targa RKS. Sipas marrëveshjes së Brukselit, këto janë targat e vetme legale në gjithë Kosovën”, shkroi ai.

Kjo nuk është hera e parë që në veri të Kosovës, të banuar me shumicë serbe, janë djegur vetura me targa RKS.

Në fund të vitit të kaluar, në veriun e Kosovës u rritën tensionet për shkak të vendimit të Qeverisë së Kosovës që të gjitha makinat me targa ilegale të lëshuara nga Serbia t’i konvertonin ato në targa RKS.

Në shenjë pakënaqësie me këtë vendim, por edhe për shkak të arrestimit të një ish-polici serb të Kosovës, serbët lokalë ngritën barrikada në veri.

In the meantime, Kosovo and Serbia, under the mediation of the European Union, agreed on the license plate issue. Accordingly, Kosovo gave up the actions foreseen by the decision on the re-registration of license plates, while Serbia agreed that it would no longer issue new license plates for cars circulating in Kosovo.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo has not indicated how many cars have so far been re-registered in the RKS, but the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated on March 22 that more and more citizens from the north are being equipped with RKS license plates.

It is estimated that in the north of Kosovo there are about 10,000 cars with illegal license plates issued by Serbia./REL
