At least 85 people died and more than 300 were injured in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, during a stampede, the French news agency AFP reported.

The accident happened at the school during the distribution of humanitarian aid for Ramadan.

Images on social networks show chaotic scenes after the incident in the Bab el Yemen area.

Reuters reports that hundreds of people gathered at the school to receive donations that amounted to about nine dollars per person.

The number of dead and injured continues to rise. The first information said that there were around thirty dead in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen controlled by the Houthi rebels.

The rebel Saba news agency stated that the victims were immediately transported to nearby hospitals and that the organizers of this event were arrested.

Among the victims are children and women, while it is learned that at least 50 people are currently in critical condition.

Iran-aligned Houthi rebels seized control of Yemen's capital nine years ago, prompting an intervention by a Saudi-led military coalition to prop up the government.
