North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country has completed development of its first military spy satellite and ordered officials to carry out its launch as planned, Reuters reported, citing a report from state media in Pyongyang. .
He stressed that strengthening intelligence capabilities is a priority to counter "threats" from the US and South Korea.
In December, North Korea conducted what it called an important "final stage" of a spy satellite test and said it would complete launch preparations by April.
During a visit to the State Aviation Development Agency on Tuesday, Kim called for the satellites to be launched on time and ordered more detection satellites to be placed in different orbits to strengthen surveillance capabilities.
According to the report, the construction of the satellite has been completed, but it has not been specified when the planned launch date is.
"Providing real-time information on the military scenario of enemy forces is the most important task," Kim said.
He condemned the deployment of US strategic assets in the region as an attempt "to turn South Korea into an advanced base for aggression and an arsenal of war"./ CNA.al
