The EU is ready to organize the Kurti-Vu?i? meeting, when there are conditions

The European Union said on Monday that it is ready to organize a high-level meeting within the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, but, according to the bloc, the conditions must be created for something like this.

This is what the EU spokesperson, Peter Stano, said on Monday, commenting on the possible meeting between the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic.

"Of course, we are always ready to host a high-level meeting, within the dialogue between Prime Minister Kurti and President Vu?i?, when there are conditions, and when both of them agree on something like this. But, at this stage, the most important thing is to lower the tensions on the ground and take concrete steps. And precisely for this, we have the EU's special envoy [Miroslav] Lajcak. After he is in Pristina and Belgrade, he will report to the High Representative, [Josep] Borrell, and the High Representative will notify the member countries, to decide on the next steps," said Stano.

Lajcak and the American envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, visit Kosovo on Monday and Serbia on Tuesday, with the aim of reducing the tensions of the last few days in the north of Kosovo.

"They are going to continue working on the implementation of European and American calls for Kosovo and Serbia to immediately reduce tensions and take steps for a lasting solution. The platform for this sustainable solution is anyway in the dialogue facilitated by the EU", said Stano, among other things.

The local Serbs are continuing the protests in the three municipalities in the north of Kosovo, Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq, even on June 5.

They have been protesting regularly since May 29, to oppose the entry of Albanian mayors into municipal buildings.

On May 29, in Zvçan, local Serbs clashed with members of KFOR, resulting in injuries on both sides.

The international factor has made continuous calls for taking steps towards reducing tensions.

Some diplomats have also requested the holding of new elections in the north. Senior officials of Kosovo have given signs that something like this could happen./Rel
