Israel-Hamas agreement reached / 50 hostages in exchange for 150 Palestinians

After several hours of closed-door discussions, the Government of Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement on the release of the hostages and a several-day cease-fire.

They have agreed to a four-day ceasefire to allow the release of 50 hostages held in Gaza.

The hostages will be exchanged for 150 Palestinians imprisoned in Israel and humanitarian aid in the besieged area.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said 50 women and children would be released over four days, during which there would be a pause in the fighting. For every 10 hostages released, the pause will be extended by one day.

"The Government of Israel is committed to the release of all hostages. Today, it approved the proposed agreement as a first step in achieving this goal," the statement said.

It is not yet known when the agreement will be implemented, but if it is successful it will be the first cessation of hostilities since the outbreak of war on October 7.
