Vengu hands over the baton/ Ermal Nufi takes office as Minister of Defense

The handover ceremony at the Ministry of Defense took place this Saturday, where Ermal Nufi officially took over the leadership of the institution, succeeding Pirro Vengu in this position.

During the ceremony held at the "Skënderbej" Garrison, Vengu emphasized that he will always carry the spirit of this ministry with him, while expressing his satisfaction that he is handing over the task to a good friend and compatriot.

In his first speech as minister, Nufi stated that he takes on this task with a deep sense of honor and with full awareness of the responsibility that the institution bears for the country's security.

"Today I take on this task with a deep sense of honor, but above all with a full awareness of the responsibility that this institution bears for the security of the country. In this institution, the foundations of the state, the security of the nation and the guarantee of Albania's sovereignty are built," he said.

Nufi also emphasized the symbolism of holding the ceremony at the "Skënderbej" Garrison, which he described as a place of historical importance for the formation of generations of Albanian military personnel and as a symbol of the tradition, discipline and patriotism of the army.

The new minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Edi Rama for the trust he has placed in him, and also thanked former minister Pirro Vengu for his contribution to the Armed Forces.

He praised Vengu's work, emphasizing that during his leadership at the Ministry of Defense, a European approach to the development of the Armed Forces was established.
