New carbon tax implemented by the EU/ Karakaçi: This policy finds Albania

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, was present at the Energy Ministerial organized in Montenegro. 

The Minister stated that one issue raised by all Western Balkan countries at the meeting is the new carbon tax implemented by the EU, which means that any non-renewable electricity production in the countries of the region will be taxed additionally by the European Union.

According to Karakaci, this is a very good opportunity for Albania, the first in the region for renewable energy, to exploit this potential and increase investments in renewable energy.

He also emphasized that this European Union policy finds Albania very prepared and in a more competitive process with all other countries.

"This was a very good Forum, there was a conversation between international financial institutions, Energy Ministers, but also all private actors who want to invest in the region. Once again, all the supporting policies that the Albanian Government has implemented for renewable energy were clearly emphasized.

Albania continues to be a champion in renewable energy through all the auction support schemes, but not only the investments that have already come to life, as in the case of photovoltaic energy, which have been realized without government support and only through private initiative.
