'Tik-Tok' shuts down in Albania today/ Access to the platform blocked for 1.5 million users

Starting today, the 'TikTok' platform will be closed in Albania for one year. Starting this Thursday, access to this platform in Albania will be blocked. The application of this social platform has approximately 1.5 million users in the country.

Earlier, the Albanian Authority for Electronic and Postal Communications ordered all internet service providers to block access to the application's servers and provide written evidence.

The ban was first announced in December by Prime Minister Edi Rama. The decision came after an escalation among teenagers on the platform resulted in a fight that left a 14-year-old dead and another seriously injured.

The murder sparked discussions about the impact of social media on Albania's youth, with Rama himself calling the app a dangerous tool. /CNA
