Safety in the tourist season/ 34 boats blocked in one week, 19 vacationers

The Maritime Police Unit and the Border Police are conducting intensive monitoring with the aim of increasing maritime security parameters.

As a result of monitoring and controls, from Ksamil to Koman, 34 vessels have been blocked, 15 of which for violating the security perimeter.

Also, 19 citizens (Albanian and foreign) were rescued at sea, thanks to the intervention of the Border Police and the Maritime Police Unit.

The Saranda Border Police, in cooperation with their Greek counterparts, has located and blocked, in a place called the Vivari Canal, near the mouth of the Butrint Canal, a stolen raft in the Plataria-Igoumenitsa area, Greece. Work continues to identify and capture the perpetrators.

As part of the "MARINE SECURITY" operation, the Border Police and the Maritime Police Unit are conducting intensive checks in the maritime area from Ksamil to Velipojë, as well as in lake and river areas, to identify violations of navigation rules, the security perimeter and the use of vessels without relevant documentation.

During this week, 473 vessels were inspected, of which 34 were blocked for:

Violation of the maritime security perimeter;

Carrying out activities outside approved areas;

Lack of relevant documentation.

Vehicles seized: 22 jet skis, 4 speedboats, 4 dinghies and 4 metal boats with installed water motors.

15 of them were found sailing within the security perimeter, endangering the lives of vacationers. Their drivers were fined 100,000 lek each.

Meanwhile, from Ksamil to Velipojë, the Border Police has intervened in 8 cases to help 19 citizens, who were in danger due to strong waves or defects in their boats.

The Border Police appeals for respect for the rules for the use of watercraft:

Do not breach the security perimeter;

Only sail in permitted areas;

Always use rescue tools.
