Mayor's dismissal/ SPAK: We have no request for permission from Veliaj

The Special Prosecution Office has stated that arrested Mayor Erion Veliaj has not received any request for special permission from the mayor or his lawyers to participate in the Municipal Council meeting to be held on Tuesday.

"In response to your request received on 22.09.2025, we inform you that so far, no such request has been submitted to the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime," SPAK's response to the media states.

The General Directorate of Prisons has also confirmed earlier that no request for special permission has been submitted, which would allow Veliaj to participate in the meeting.

We remind you that tomorrow the Municipal Council meeting will be held to dismiss Erion Veliaj.

The latter, in his reaction, stated that he has not yet been officially informed about the meeting for his dismissal.

He requested to be heard by the Municipal Council, while the latter stated that the mayor could submit the clarifications in writing.

On the other hand, the opposition has also sided with the mayor, saying that Veliaj should be heard in the Municipal Council./ CNA
