Action for public spaces in Pogradec/ 20 illegally constructed buildings

A large-scale campaign to free up public spaces has begun in the city of Pogradec, which is being implemented by the Territory Protection Agency as part of the government's overall plan, which aims to return to citizens spaces that have been illegally occupied for years. The intervention has started in the Kalasa area, where about 20 buildings built without permission have been demolished.

Currently, the action has moved to the hospital road, where inspectors are continuing their work to vacate the occupied premises. For dozens of other buildings, the relevant notices have been issued and the owners have been given a five-day deadline to remove the buildings themselves. However, since this has not happened, the intervention was carried out by AMT forces.

"According to the prime minister's plan, we have taken action throughout the city, specifically we have been in the Kala area. Now we have finished in the Kala area and are currently on the hospital road. We have demolished about 20 buildings in Kala, while there are about 30 buildings for which the relevant notices have been made according to the law. We have made notices that within 5 days they should vacate themselves, they have not vacated them and we have been forced to act with our own means", said Markel Hafesllari, director of the Territory Protection Agency.

On the other hand, the head of the AMT made it clear that so far he has not encountered any objections from citizens, which has facilitated the continuation of the work. He appealed to those who have received the notices to show cooperation and clear the spaces themselves to avoid forced actions.

"No, there were no objections. This is why this action is so that all public spaces belong to all residents, not just one resident who can surround the area and have their own property at a time when it is public property for all residents of the city. The action will be throughout the city. To whom the notice has been sent, please vacate the spaces themselves so that we do not interfere," said Hafesllari.

This action, which is expected to extend to every neighborhood in Pogradec, is seen as an important step towards restoring order and guaranteeing equal access for all residents to the city's public spaces. /CNA
