Confindustria has issued a reaction regarding the extension of the fuel crisis due to the current war in the Persian Gulf and the increase in oil prices in our country.
In an official statement, Confindustria urges the government to quickly build and implement a fiscal package to ease market prices.
Meanwhile, regarding the price of oil that has increased to 200 lek/liter, it is said that this could create devastating consequences for the economy, industries and citizens.
Among other things, the statement mentions that Albania has the highest fuel prices in the region and further increases would risk a full-blown economic crisis with serious consequences, including the political stability and constitutional order of the country.
Full statement:
Confindustria, taking cause from the deepening and indefinite prolongation of the fuel crisis due to the war in the Persian Gulf, demands from the government the rapid construction and implementation of a fiscal package to ease market prices.
Confindustria demands that the first anti-crisis fiscal package include at least two pillars:
First, all additional revenue to the budget from the implementation of VAT on increased fuel prices compared to the pre-crisis period should be returned directly to citizens and businesses in the final price.
Secondly, reduce the vehicle turnover tax to the extent of the increase in absolute budget revenues from fuel VAT compared to pre-crisis prices.
The third necessary accompanying measure of the package is the construction of an institutional mechanism for determining the ceiling price of retail fuel sales, so that the reduction of the fiscal burden does not end only in increasing profits for oligopolistic traders.
Retail prices in the market have reached the 200 lek/liter mark and are headed for further increases, which could create devastating consequences for the economy, industries and citizens. Albania has the highest fuel prices in the region and further increases would risk a full-blown economic crisis with serious multidimensional consequences, up to the political stability and constitutional order of the country.
