The Supreme Court has returned the file of the former mayor of Himara, Jorgo Goros, related to the seizure of assets, to the GJKKO for retrial.

The decision was made in today's court session following the appeal and recourse filed by the defense for Goro.

"Decides to overturn decision no. 39 (87-2025-261), dated 22.07.2025 of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime and decision no. 25, dated 13.03.2025, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, with regard to point 4 of the disposition of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, regarding the confiscation of real estate, and to send the case for retrial to the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, with another trial panel ," the Supreme Court decision states.

On March 31, the Special Prosecution Office requested Goro's return to prison, as he still had 6 months and 10 days to serve. A few weeks ago, the Special Court of Appeal upheld the 2-year prison sentence for the former mayor of Himara.

The former mayor was accused by SPAK of abuse of office committed repeatedly, in connection with the alienation of a land area in Livadh, in the Municipality of Himara. Due to the summary trial, he has served 1 year and 4 months in prison. He was released on August 29 last year. /CNA
