Albanian student protest begins in Skopje/ Thousands of young people fill the

A protest by Albanian students has begun in Skopje, North Macedonia. This is the second protest held by Albanian students in North Macedonia, demanding the right to take the bar exam in Albanian. The rally is taking place near the Stone Bridge in Skopje, where thousands of students from Albanian regions are present.

This protest comes as an expression of the students' revolt after the rejection of their request by the current Minister of Justice, Igor Filkov.

According to the Law on the Bar Exam in North Macedonia, there is no restriction that forces the exam to be taken only in Macedonian. The Law on the Use of Languages, adopted in 2019, obliges state institutions to allow the use of the Albanian language if at least 20% of citizens speak this language.

Article 2 and Article 5 of this law clearly stipulate that state institutions and courts must enable the use of the Albanian language in all official procedures. /CNA
