The Committee on Civic Initiatives is reviewing the draft resolution "On the evaluation of the activity of the Prosecutor General for the year 2025".

The Head of the General Prosecutor's Office, Olsian Çela, described the election of a member of the High Prosecutorial Council as a major issue.

He said that today the intervention of the Prosecutor General and the Minister of Justice has been excluded from the KLP, due to the independence of the institution.

On the other hand, Çela said that there are doubts whether this has brought the necessary efficiency to the way the Councils function today. According to him, this issue should be reviewed.  

"What I see as a major problem is what happens with the election of a member of the KLP, in today's system in the way it is elected. He comes through an application, serves 5 years and leaves. To whom is this member individually accountable for his performance. There is no direct connection. Today, we have excluded from the KLP the prosecutor general, who is responsible for the way the system functions, the minister of justice who coordinates the interaction of the system, in the name of independence. But has this solution provided the necessary efficiency for the way the Councils function today. I have my doubts and I think it is an issue that needs to be reviewed ," said Çela. /CNA
