The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania convenes

The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania convened today, which is the first under the leadership of His Beatitude, Joan, after his election as Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and all Albania.



CNA has learned that the Synod convened at around 10:00 AM today and is expected to discuss and make decisions on very important issues, which relate to the election of the Metropolitans for Gjirokastra and Korça, as well as to further the functioning of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

The meeting is expected to last several hours and then the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania will issue a public announcement regarding its decisions.

The Holy Synod is expected to elect two vacant positions for the Despotate of Korça, a position held by His Beatitude Joan prior to his election as Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania and Gjirokastra, after the passing of His Grace, Demetrius.

The Holy Synod consists of:

Archbishop Joan as head of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania,

His Grace Nikola, who is the Metropolitan of Apollonia and Fier,

Metropolitan of Berat, Vlora & Kanina, His Grace, Asti,

The Metropolitan of Amantia, His Grace, Nathanael,

The Metropolitan of Elbasan, His Grace, Andoni,

His Grace, Anastasius, who is the Bishop of Kruja and Protosingjel of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania./ CNA
