The War in Gaza/ Ditmir Bushati breaks down Albania's position: Strategy,

Former Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati has broken down Albania's position on the war between Hamas and Israel.

In a statement for the show Opinion, Bushati stated that geography is a destination and cannot be changed, while the strategy is in choosing Albania.

Bushati said that Albania has decided not to take a position on this issue, while according to him it should at least condemn Hamas' activities, support the two-state solution and respect for international law.

He emphasized that "Nothing is in our hands but we must demonstrate strategy"

"First, geography is a destination, it doesn't change it, while strategy is in our choice."

Secondly, Albania recognized Palestine in '88. It was for a two-state solution. In 2018, it voted against the US position on recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. We have had friendly relations with Israel for the last two decades and unfortunately, since the outbreak of the conflict in Gaza, Albania's position has been unclear. While countries like Germany do not yet recognize it as a state, they vote for a two-state solution, condemning the terrorist attack by Hamas but also the use of force by Israel. Albania has chosen to abstain.
