Lynching of journalists by colleague/ AGSH reacts: Respect professional ethics

The Journalists' Association of Albania, through a post on social media, has expressed concern about the language used by a journalist towards colleagues.

In its response, AGSH says that it is unacceptable for professional journalists to be publicly attacked.

The Association calls for respect for professional ethics and communication standards by every journalist and public actor.

 

The Association's reaction

 

The Journalists' Association of Albania expresses concern about the denigrating, sexist and inciting language of public lynching used in a post published by a journalist against his colleagues.

It is unacceptable that female journalists, who are media professionals and above all women, are publicly attacked with insinuations, derogatory innuendos and references that affect their personal and professional dignity. The fact that female journalists are targeted makes this act even more problematic, as it fuels a climate of stigmatization and gender pressure in a sector where women often face attacks, bullying and online threats.

AGSH emphasizes that professional debate is legitimate and necessary in a democratic society, but it cannot devolve into offensive, sexist language or inciting mobs against female journalists. The demand for transparency or verification of information does not justify public lynching or attempts to target colleagues because of their work.

We call on every journalist and public actor to respect professional ethics, the dignity of colleagues, and minimum standards of public communication.
