Tirana's incinerator company devoured billions of lek in 2024

The Integrated Energy BV SPV company, during 2024, has received payments from the Treasury Department at the Ministry of Finance of 1.53 billion lek, or 21 percent more than the plan for this project.

According to tables published by "Monitor", in the 2024 budget, payments for the construction of the Tirana landfill were planned to reach 1.27 billion lek, but Open Data Albania data shows that from January 1 to December 31, 2024, more than 1.53 billion lek or 2.7 million euros more than planned were paid.

According to data, until September, 1 billion lek was paid, while in the last three months of 2024 alone, more than 500 million lek was paid.

Further, data presented in Open Data Albania shows that on the last day of 2024, the Treasury has opened 76 million lek or 767 thousand euros to Integrated.

Data on payment invoices show that the funds went to waste disposal for the Municipalities of Durrës, Kavaja, Vora, and Kamza, while the description of the invoices for the Municipality of Tirana also includes the construction of an incinerator.

The state administrator is being billed for the construction of the incinerator, the work on which has not yet begun.

Thus, the incinerator company continues to receive billions of lek or millions of euros from Albanian taxpayers for a project that does not exist and has turned into a mountain of garbage.

The Tirana incinerator affair is being investigated by the SPA, where officials are being investigated, including Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who, according to the Prosecution, has committed 4 criminal offenses: passive corruption, active corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets.

Dozens of officials and directors involved in what has been called the scandal of the century or the theft of the century have been arrested for this affair./ CNA
