The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, which convened on Saturday after the passing of Anastas Janullatus, appointed Bishop Ioan Pelusho as Supervisor of the Archbishopric.

At the end of the session, the Holy Synod held a devotional service and, at the same time, invites all believers to join in prayer for the repose of the soul of our Father and Bishop, the late Archbishop Anastasios.

The Metropolitan was born on January 1, 1956. He studied for several years at the Orthodox Theological School of the Holy Cross near Boston in the United States.

Father Joani graduated from the Holy Cross Orthodox School of Theology in Boston, with a Master of Divinity degree. He studied in the USA thanks to a scholarship established there by Albanians in America in memory of Bishop Fan Noli.

He previously served as a lecturer and dean of the Theological Academy of the Albanian Orthodox Church. In 1995, he received a scholarship and returned to the United States to continue his studies. When he returned in 1996, he was appointed director of the Theological Seminary in Durrës, and was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite on November 19. On July 18, 1998, he was elected Metropolitan of Korça and enthroned two days later. /CNA
