Tirana Lake Dam collector blocked in two areas, Municipality's

The investigation by the consulting company contacted by the water utility to verify the condition of the Tirana Artificial Lake dam and its discharge systems has shown that the main collector is blocked in two problematic areas, where intervention is needed.

At its last meeting, the National Committee of Large Dams (KKDM) reviewed the project for the inspection and rehabilitation of the collector, prepared by the consulting company and submitted by UKT. The project covers the entire length of over 1.5 kilometers of the collector and provides for measures for the rehabilitation of damaged segments that prevent the discharge of excess waters.

The consulting firm's experts have identified two problem areas: one behind the dam, where the collector passes under the former Balkan University building, and the other near a multi-story building under construction, near the KESH sh.a. building.

"The investigation conducted by the experts of the consulting firm shows that in the two areas where this collector passes, there are blockages in the manholes, blockages in the pipeline, as well as underdimensioning due to additional incoming flows and the current diameter of the collector. The most problematic areas are the area behind the dam where the collector passes under the buildings of the former Balkan University and the area near a multi-storey building under construction near the KESH sh.a. building. In these areas there is a great risk that during the maximum flows that may come to the area, we will have blockages in the movement of water and flooding in the area around them," the Committee underlines.

The KKDM, which in February of this year requested the fulfillment of several requests with a special decision, has recommended moving the collector along public roads, to avoid its passage into private areas and to facilitate maintenance in the future.

However, the Committee emphasizes that the project cannot be implemented without the approval of the Municipality of Tirana, which is the owner of the facility. After the latter gives its approval, the approval procedures and the start of the works can be continued./ Monitor
