Ilir Beqaj attacks the president of the Mero Baze Court

Ilir Beqaj has harshly attacked the President of the Supreme Court, Mero Baze's close friend, journalist of the Veliaj family, Sokol Sadushi, for his statements at the table with representatives of the Venice Commission.

"The citizen does not seek perfect justice, but justice that strives every day to be fairer," said Sadushi in his speech at the joint roundtable with the Venice Commission.

This statement has brought the reaction of former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, who calls Sadushi's statements unacceptable.

Beqaj emphasizes that this reaction brings two dimensions, the authority of Sadushi himself, Mero Baze's close friend, in the legal world, as well as the authority and position he holds as president of the Supreme Court.

"The President of the Supreme Court, Mr. Sokol Sadushi, stated yesterday at a roundtable with representatives of the Venice Commission: "The citizen does not seek perfect justice, but justice that strives every day to be fairer."

It is an important statement, with two dimensions: The authority of Sokol Sadushi's name itself in the Albanian legal world, and the authority of the position he holds — Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

"But for me it is an unacceptable statement, especially said by Mr. Sadushi. Even if he believes this, he should not say it," declared former minister Ilir Beqaj.

Beqaj underlines that Sokol Sadushi's mentality should not be legitimized by society, jurists, prosecutors, judges or lawyers, and that it must be opposed before it becomes dominant.

"This mentality should not be legitimized as accepted by our society, especially by lawyers — be they judges, prosecutors or lawyers. We must oppose it before it becomes dominant," said Ilir Beqaj.

Beqaj ironically mocks Sadushi, saying that, according to him, a scale can weigh better every day.

“The scales of justice are drawn in the courtrooms. According to Mr. Sadushi’s statement, a scale can weigh better every day. But until when? A scale that does not measure accurately means that it steals from buyers. Is it worth saying that it will weigh better every day, meaning that it will steal less every day? Until when?” Beqaj emphasized.

In conclusion, Beqaj addresses a message to Sadushi:

“Dear Mr. Sadushi,

The above is not a polemic, but a disagreement with the relativization of justice and a concern that comes to me from the experience and from the daily confrontation for months with the injustices of justice.”/ CNA
