Gave the phone to Veliaj/Former prison policeman cries in Court

In the session held today at the GJKKO, former prison police officer Fatjon Baçi, who gave the phone to the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, requested a more lenient security measure.

According to defense attorney Fatjon Baçi, Veliaj has spoken with his brother and wife.

Baçi has requested a lighter sentence, saying that there was no criminal intent in giving the phone to Veliaj and due to the fact that he is the only employee in the family.

"Fatjon Baçi made a human mistake in front of a man like Erion Veliaj who enjoyed the power he enjoyed. Veliaj talked to his brother and wife and did not have any criminal conversation, otherwise he would not have given him the cell phone. I request that the Court give me a lighter sentence considering that I did not have criminal intent and considering the family circumstances that I am the only employed person in my house," he said.

Today's hearing has been postponed after lawyers requested time to complete their conclusions, and the next one will be held on July 23.

We recall that the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, is facing 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses.

9 charges are for corruption, one for abuse of office, laundering the proceeds of crime, concealing property, and bringing prohibited items into the cell./ CNA
