The Constitutional Court convened this Tuesday on the issue related to the judges' lawsuit for a salary increase.

According to information, the decision is expected to be announced within an hour.

In March 2025, the Union of Judges requested the repeal of the legal changes made to their salaries in 2023, which determined that the basic salary of magistrates would be 36% of the President's salary, i.e. 153,000 lek.

This increase was considered a decrease by the judges, because at the same time, the government increased salaries for the public administration.

The judges say that the change in their salary reference from that of the director of the department in the Prime Minister's office to that of 36% of the President's salary has reduced their salary, and if this change had not been made, it would have been 78 thousand new lek higher.

The judges are requesting from the Constitutional Court either a return to the first reference or a determination of 54.3% of the President's salary, plus a reflection of any salary increase in full. /CNA
