“Empowerment through sports”/ 4 young people with special abilities

After Tirana, Shkodra is the second city where the “Filipidde” project, which is based in Rome, is being implemented. 4 young people with special abilities, former students of the “3 Dhjetori” school, are part of this project. Xhulio Zefi, lecturer at the Department of Physical Education and Sports, at the “Luigj Gurakuqi” University, talks about the importance of sports for people with disabilities.

"The project started in Tirana and fortunately the opportunity was found to transfer it to Shkodra. It is a collaboration between the University of Shkodra, specifically the Department of Physical Education and Sports, together with the '3 Dzherti' special school, which gives these children with special abilities this opportunity to improve their lives and at the same time improve their motor skills by collaborating with the Department of Physical Education and Sports with this school."

It is understood that the assistance that we as a department and as a university provide is so that these children have the opportunity to develop further in terms of motor, communicative and social skills. Today is the day of the presentation of the start of the project. There are 4 children with special abilities and at the same time we have made 4 students of physical education and sports of the master's program available.

In the future, it is thought that we will continue to expand it because the needs are great for the assistance that must be given to this group.

"Physical activity is necessary for all people, but for these children it is a great opportunity and a help that is given to them to socialize and to be able to discharge the negative emotions that they have. The second is that through physical and motor exercises they can improve their mobility."

Nicola Pintus, President of the project, indicated that this project is part of the United Nations and the goal is to help these boys and girls who need to integrate through sports.

"I am the President of this project based in Rome. I thank you very much for the hospitality and the opportunity given to the project for the University of Shkodra in collaboration with the special school '3 Dzechti' to develop the beginning of an activity that will be long-term which helps this segment of the population, these young men and women with special abilities to improve their lives.

I want to give another idea because at this moment Shkodra is the center of the world for me because there are activities that are extremely necessary and represent a necessity for the needs of these layers. We must know that this project is part of the United Nations and since it is part of the UN we respect all the charters and conventions that the UN has and for us people with special abilities from the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic, from Italy or Albania make no difference.

The goal is to help these boys and girls improve their lives and at the same time, through sports, respect their right to have the opportunity to practice sports to develop their motor skills as much as possible.

The Sports Department at the University of Shkodra has made 4 students available to assist these individuals. Every day, young people, together with teachers, will exercise in one of the school gyms. This project is expected to continue in Shkodra, increasing the number of beneficiaries and aims to empower people with disabilities through sports, promoting their inclusion and personal development, and is expected to expand year after year. /CNA
