Good Friday/ Epitaph procession in Korça, hundreds of believers

On the afternoon of Good Friday, the city of Korça was filled with a solemn and spiritual atmosphere, as numerous Orthodox believers, as well as visitors from various cities in the country, gathered to participate in the traditional ceremony of passing under the epitaph, one of the most important rites of Holy Week.

In the central square, in front of the magnificent Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the epitaphs of the city’s six churches were united. This moment created a rare sight and a special feeling of unity, as hundreds of people gathered to follow the procession with respect and devotion. In an atmosphere of solemnity, accompanied by the melancholic sounds of church songs and common prayers, the ceremony deeply reflected the commemoration of the suffering and sacrifice of Christ.

The epitaph procession, representing the symbolic tomb of Christ, departed from the cathedral and continued along the city's main boulevards, stopping at several symbolic points to pray.

This year, the leadership of the procession was entrusted to Father Ilia Kotnan, as His Grace, Bishop Joani, who has previously been a key figure in this ceremony, was recently elected Archbishop of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania./ CNA
