Former Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati heads the ODIHR mission for the early parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.

The mission will assess the conduct of the elections in accordance with OSCE commitments and other international obligations and standards for democratic elections, as well as with national legislation.

At the start of this mission for the elections that will take place on September 1, Bushati was received in a meeting by the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, with whom they discussed the importance of this election process for the country.

During his stay in Baku, Bushati and the mission he leads will meet with representatives of state authorities and political parties, civil society and the media.

The ODIHIR mission is led by Ditmir Bushati and consists of a core team of 11 international experts based in Baku and 28 long-term observers who will be deployed across the country. ODIHR also plans to request 280 short-term observers.

Observers will closely monitor all key aspects of the election, such as the conduct of the campaign, including social media, the work of the election administration at all levels, election-related legislation and its implementation, respect for fundamental freedoms, media coverage and resolution of electoral disputes. Observers will also assess the implementation of ODIHR's previous election recommendations./ CNA
