Osum's canyons are a gem of nature and a tourist destination. This magical place is being visited a lot not only by Albanian citizens, but also by foreigners. 

Osumi gorges, also known as "Skrapar canyons", are the largest river canyon in Albania.

It is located in the southern region of the Republic of Albania, namely in the District of Berat, the District of Skrapar.

Impressive views of nature in this canyon make it one of the most attractive in the Balkan region.

The canyon was created by the erosive and dissolving forces of the Osum River, exerted on the limestone rock mass of the Çorovoda anticlinal structure, and is about 13 km long, from 4 to 35 mi wide, up to 70-80 m deep, with vertical sword. The time of its formation is thought to be 2 to 3 million years ago.

On the vertical walls of the canyon there are many boulders and hollows formed by karst processes. Among them stands out "Vrima e nuses", located 800 m near the village of Bigazi and which is a cavity or perhaps a karst cave in the form of a gallery with a length of 7-8 m and a diameter of about 2 m.

Surely in the vertical limestone walls there are other much bigger caves, which await explorers to discover and evidence their many values./ CNA
